Munari-inspired collaboration

I recently collaborated with Blackpool artist Garth Gratrix for his Bruno Munari inspired installation for an upcoming exhibition as part of his residency at Oxheys Mill Studios,  where I am one of the founding artists.

We set up an old armchair in the project space, alongside my studio, I set up my lights and created the set and we discussed exactly what he wanted to achieve and the look he wanted the images to have. As I was also to produce the prints for the piece, we discussed how he wanted them to appear and the kind of paper that would be used, all of which helped me to understand his vision.

As we carried out the shoot, we found we were able to feed off each other’s ideas and I was able to make suggestions he hadn’t previously considered. We tried out various ideas, reviewed the results, settled on the style and came up with some work that both of us were pleased with and had some fun in the process.

Once we had reviewed the final images, the artist made his selection which I then printed and he framed ready for his exhibition opening November 3rd 2011
